Japanese Maples with Paul Jones

Learn about the different varieties of Japanese Maples with Paul

When it comes to Japanese Maples, people often think of them in just "red" or "green". There are many different varieties with unique colors, leaf shapes, statures, and needs. This year the colors of the maples have been strengthened due to the overcast weather we have had over the past three to four weeks. When the weather is overcast while maples are just starting to leaf out, the color is intensified while if it is a very bright, sunny spring the colors can come out more faded and washed-out. When planting Japanese Maples, we recommend that you use an acidic planting mix such as our E.B. Stone Azalea, Camellia & Gardenia Planting Mix. In addition to this soil, you will want to use a good, organic fertilizer such as Dr. Earth Acid Lovers Fertilizer. Japanese Maples require the acidity and prefer the fertilizer to be organic. Use these products to maintain the best health for your tree.
